Philophonic, I had the same scenario as you regarding the jump to 500 Energy. I was like, WHAT THE #$%^&(*! Luckily, I googled “iphone mafia wars” and found this blog.
I was trying to be effective on my Points, so I put the excess (well, what I thought were excess) towards my Attack and Defense Secret Skills.
I wish I would have found this site a day earlier. Then I would have spent ALL of the points toward my Energy. Of course, hindsight is 20/20.
I actually expanded the chart to include “Rob a Museum” because this has a 1.22 ratio. Next I calculate the level to start doing “energy only” to escape the time barrier.
As you level up, does it always only pay 5 skill points. If so, then once you pass level 665, then there is no escaping the time barrier unless you have done energy only starting at level 100.

What about the new jobs Help a Fugitive and Raid DEA Warehouse?
The Experience Points table is no longer helpful because just today, Mafia Wars updated. I was a Lv 537 who needed 2000 EXP, but now I need 5350 EXP instead, and when I got to Lv 538, I needed 5375 EXP.
Can you update?
yeah man this sucks im at level 461 and i need double the energy i have.
I am at level 117 and my EXP was at 500. I just downloaded the update to the app. and my EXP went up to 1150 even though my level is still at 117. Anyone else know the deal with this? It doesnt match up with the chart.

Anyone else experience that the new update makes Mafia crash often, and runs extreamly slow?
I did the update and now the fights are REALLY slow and crash a lot. I am level 273… before the update I needed 500 points and now I need 2725… It is a really big jump… So if you can do not do the update!!!!
I was able to remove the update and go back to the old version 1.0 I am taking donations for the information if anyone is interested. Dontation can be sent to paypal with a balance only no credit cards or direct bank transers [email protected] Balance only. That means if there is money in the account right now than it can be accepted. There is an easy way to do it but there also is a time limin to when it can be done. Payment not be refundable due to the time between update download and the way it was downloaded.

Is there anyway to revert back to the old version? The new update sucks bigtime!!!! Slow. Fighting crashes resulting in spontaneous exits after a long pause or sometimes freezing to where you have to reboot the iPhone. This is going to alienate alot of players, especially when most know that the people currently at these high levels are at an unfair advantage. If they are going to do such a severe rebalancing (now I need 1900 to level as opposed to 500), they should have not updated, but created a new app (maybe Mafia Wars II or Mafia Wars Improved) and give people the option to play that in addition to their old one. Eventually people might get bored and move over to the new one, but this feels like a forced “suck factor”, so since this feels like starting over, I am going to start over with iMob.
Delete Mafia Wars from your device.
Then delete the new “Mafai Wars 1.1.ipa” file and copy in the old one

Re-sync, making sure that you have selected Mafia Wars.
I saved mine before I ever took an update.
I think the only way you could revert was to find the 1.0 app and jailbreak your iphone… It was pretty stupid of them to change the requirements for leveling, because as you stated – people who already have a high level have a clear advantage. Also, those who found out about the update and never updated their app (i.e. me) have a HUGE advantage as well, for obvious reasons.
They just need to switch it back and deal with it. If they changed it just to stop the power leveling (which is very likely, since nothing else was updated), well it’s their fault for being so short-sighted as to think people wouldn’t be able to get around the time barrier with the leveling system they first released with the game… They went from one extreme to the other… Switch it back and make the game fun again!

The reason I say no refunds is due to the way the update was downloaded. If you downloaded the update through iTunes on your computer than I can’t help you. If you used your iPod touch wifi or on the iPhone through wifi or edge and haven’t connected your device to the computer than I can help. But it’s up to you all.

hi, i deleted the updated mafia wars version from my Iphone and downloaded the link for the old version you supplied. currently i have the old version sitting in my library in itunes with no version on mafia wars on my phone. for some reason when i sync my phone it will not put the app i have sitting in my library onto my phone. any ideas?
So you want people to pay you so you can tell them if they have version 1.0 in their iTunes and only updated the app on their iPhone/iPods and haven’t synced yet with iTunes, then all the would have to do is delete the app from their iPhone/iPod then sync with their iTunes again to get the 1.0 app back on their iPhone/iPod?

If you have windows vista, just go and view previous versions. This will allow you to see the old 1.0 file that was in the itunes folder. Restore that file then repoint the app file in iTunes to that file. Now you will be back on 1.0 without having to jailbreak you phone. This takes about 30 seconds and you do not have to worry about messing up your phone.

Oh and that will work even if you updated through iTunes becasue I updated through itunes and rolled back. Unfortunatly it only works if yo are running vista becasue previous versions does not exist it XP.

You’re going to need to patch your MobileInstallation file on your iPhone. If you are running firmware version 2.2.1, follow these instructions:
1. Open up Cydia and tap the “Manage” button at the bottom of the screen, then tap “Sources”.
2. Click the “Edit” button at the top right of the next screen.
3. Click the “Add” button at the top left of the screen.
4. In the popup box that comes up, enter “http://cydia.hackulo.us” and tap “Add Source”
5. Get back to the Sources screen and tap on the “Hackulo.us” source.
6. Look for the “miPatch Firmware 2.2.1″ and tap on it, then at the next screen tap “Install” at the top left.
After it installs, you should be able to add apps to your iPhone through iTunes with no verification problems.
If for some reason you aren’t running 2.2.1 (I’m not, but I jailbroke my phone on 2.2 and don’t see any good reason to update to 2.2.1) then just google how to change it. You may need to install OpenSSH if you are using any other method, but they should tell you in the instructions. Here is a site with download links to many MobileInstallation files for different firmware versions.

Download 1.0 version, deleted Mafia Wars from phone. Double clicked 1.0 version, iTunes asked to replace old with new, clicked yes. Click sync and now I’m on old version again. Good work, thanks, and hope others can get it working too.

Will I lose all data?
The main important thing I have realized through this is that XP required to level is a “client” controlled value. Are all other values built into the client as well? It would seem just a matter of time before the game is ruined / owned / whatever you want to call it.

You will not lose data if you revert. All game data is stored on the zynga servers. This a why you have to wait 60 days without playing the game to start a new profile and can’t just delete the app and download it again if you want to create a new profile.

Hello, I read your thread and followed the steps you say to take. My situation is, I never synced my Iphone after originally downloaded the first mafia wars app to my phone. Then I updated mafia wars and still never synced my phone. So my itunes never saw the mafia wars app in its library. I downloaded the original version from this site, and now i have the 1.0 version sitting in my library. I synced my phone and it will not transfer 1.0 onto my phone. Any suggestions?

All I did was install the new update and it sucked I was hoping things to be changed like more guns but no you just needed more expirence to level up and I’m on level 323 so you can imagine how much I woudld have needed to level up so I said no. And just deleted the app and resynced my iPod and the old version synced and viola this worked becuase I didn’t synch it with my computer when I got the new version so it worked but try it or get the old version from a friends computer.

I confirmed this table and it looks like all the experience levels matchup. It’s odd how they did the requirements on the iPhone to pretty much require double the experience you previously needed. They did however make leveling a little faster.
I did everything listed to go back to ver 1.0. Now, how do I know what version am I running?
The required experience points for this level didn’t go down. Will it be less in the next level?
The required experience point did not go down in the next level either. Although it does seem like it changed the ver because my itunes icon shows the ver as 1.0 and when I downloaded that (via App store) and tapped ‘Weapons’ it gave this opening message …
